Karpińska’s Paradox in Dimension Three

For 0 < λ < 1/e the Julia set of λez is an uncountable union of pairwise disjoint simple curves tending to infinity [Devaney and Krych 1984], the Hausdorff dimension of this set is two [McMullen 1987], but the set of curves without endpoints has Hausdorff dimension one [Karpińska 1999]. We show that these results have three-dimensional analogues when the exponential function is replaced by a qu...

Radial multiresolution in dimension three

We present a construction of a wavelet-type orthonormal basis for the space of radial L-functions in R via the concept of a radial multiresolution analysis. The elements of the basis are obtained from a single radial wavelet by usual dilations and generalized translations. Hereby the generalized translation reveals the group convolution of radial functions in R. We provide a simple way to const...

Nilpotent Jacobians in dimension three

In this paper we completely classify all polynomial maps of the form H = (u(x, y), v(x, y, z), h(u(x, y), v(x, y, z)) with JH nilpotent. AMS subject classification : 14R15, 14R10, 14E07.

Factoring in Embedding Dimension Three Numerical Semigroups

Let us consider a 3-numerical semigroup S = 〈a, b,N 〉. Given m ∈ S, the triple (x, y, z) ∈ N3 is a factorization of m in S if xa+ yb+ zN = m. This work is focused on finding the full set of factorizations of any m ∈ S and as an application we compute the catenary degree of S. To this end, we relate a 2D tessellation to S and we use it as a main tool.

Are there Unfoldable Proteins in Dimension Three?

In this paper we show the existence of three dimensional rigid, and thus unfoldable, lattice conformations. The structure described here has 461 bonds. We provide a computer assisted proof of its rigidity. The existence of rigid two dimensional structures was shown earlier, see [3]. This work answers Question 8 in [2] in the affirmative: rigid (and hence unfoldable from a straight conformation)...
